I'm naming this easy crochet stitch The Crochet Ripples Stitch, because of the textural ripples in the fabric made by this stitch. How Does The Crochet Ripples Crochet Stitch Work?
This stitch is comprised of clusters of 3 double crochets, chain 3 spaces, and front post single crochets. The clusters of 3 double crochets are always worked into the chain 3 spaces. The front post single crochet is responsible for the texture of this stitch. It sort of pins the fabric down, and makes the fabric around it puff out, almost like buttons on a mattress.
Is This An Easy Crochet Stitch?
Yes! While some may not be familiar with the front post single crochet, it is easy to learn and the pattern for the Crochet Ripples Stitch is very repetitive. The Crochet Ripples Stitch is a one row repeat pattern, and the repeat within that one row is rather short. In other words, you will have this stitch memorized very quickly with no need to refer back to the pattern!
Crochet Ripples Stitch Pattern
Chain a multiple of 4 + 2.
Row 1: Starting in the second chain, single crochet (sc) across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Work 3 double crochet (dc) into the first stitch. *Skip 3 stitches. Work a sc into the next stitch, chain 3, work 3 dc into the same stitch you just worked a sc. End the row with a sc into the last stitch. Chain 1, turn.
Row 3: Work 3 dc into the first stitch. *Skip 2 dc, work a front post single crochet (fpsc) into the next stitch. Chain 3, work 3 dc into the chain 3 space of the previous row. Repeat from * across. At the end of the row, work a sc into the last stitch. Chain 1, turn.
