The bobble stitch is a favorite among crocheters, and for good reason! The bobble stitch is easy to learn and adds so much texture and personality to blankets, sweaters, this coaster pattern, etc. Keep reading for a bobble stitch tutorial, as well as a pattern to follow to create your own piece featuring the bobble stitch.


Note that the bobble stitch creates a very defined right side and wrong side. The bobble will stick out on the right side, and the wrong side will be flat. When working with the bobble stitch, alternate rows of single crochets and bobble stitches to keep the bobbles on one side only.

Bobble Stitch (bs)

• Yarn over (yo), insert hook into stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)

• Yo, insert hook into the same stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)

• Yo, insert hook into the same stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook)

• Yo, insert hook into the same stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (5 loops on hook)

• Yo, insert hook into the same stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (6 loops on hook) • Yo, pull through 6 loops on hook.


Note: Follow every bobble stitch with a single crochet in the next stitch to secure the bobble.


Pattern for Crochet Bobble Stitch


Chain an even number of stitches.

Row 1: Starting in second chain from hook, work single crochets across the row. Chain 1, turn.

Row 2: Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, work a bobble stitch in the next stitch, work single crochet in next stitch. Repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn.


Repeat row 1 and 2 until you reach the desired length.
